Information about my July 12th event!
I will be open on the Art Trail’s 2nd Saturday event (along with 14 other artists across Tompkins County). You can find the list of other open studios on the Event Page.
I’ll be at the Lansing Pizzeria from (Lansing Pizzeria, 2035 East Shore Drive (Route 34), Lansing, NY 14882 ) from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Come at any time!
I will lead a workshop where we can create quilt books that will describe the stars used by enslaved persons from the Ludlowville area to escape to freedom. We will specifically talk about Peter Wheeler, Author of Chains and Freedom who escaped from Ludlowville, NY on the Underground Railroad and became a Sailor with the U.S. Navy.
Materials will be provided to create the Big Dipper Consellation, the Cassieopia Constellation and the maps and places Peter Wheeler used. (Materials have been donated by the Mims family and the Pyfrom Family of West Palm Beach).
Children 12 and under are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult at all times.
Come and join us anytime and you’ll also get a special educational keepsake for participating in the workshoip!

Art has always helped me to speak the language of my heart. I am so happy at this time of my life to do what I love which is to create art with a purpose!
I am a cloth griot. My work consists of mixed media quilted wall hangings and quilts tell the stories of individuals, families, and communities, in particular the rich textural history of the African-American textile history and quilting cloth narratives. My goals as an artist are to bring to life stories that go untold, and to connect with communities that represent stories of healing, inspiration, uplift, and education.
Although I don’t have a studio for visits, I hope you visit my website!
