Being raised at the edge of the Finger Lakes National Forest set the stage for my deep connection to the natural landscape. After receiving a degree in Fine Art, I worked as a faux finisher, muralist, and owned a picture framing studio and boutique gallery with my husband Diego Ruiz; a stereo photographer, wood, and glass artist. In 2014, I started focusing on painting outside from life – Plein Air!
I’m always searching for opportunities to capture transitional moments and spaces – for instance the time between night and day, calm and storm, or moving from shadowy areas out to the light. This means I’m out either super late or super early, and has led to many interesting encounters with nature. Whether having a stare down with a wolf in Yellowstone, rolling down the palm tree and sea grape lined A1A in Florida, or sleeping through a tornado in Missouri… it’s always an adventure!
Each painting is an experience with nature, a fleeting moment that moved me set up an easel and grab brushes. The greatest compliment and honor is when someone else can feel that painted moment and decides to take that piece home to live with them.
My husband Diego Ruiz and I share this studio/gallery space at 9366 Burdick Road, Interlaken; one or both of us will be here weekends June – October, and by appointment year around.
