My interdisciplinary art practice is focused on a sense of kinship with the land, and as a recent transplant in Ithaca I am looking forward to getting to know the beautiful Finger Lakes watershed. I gravitate towards book art and other research-based, poetic syntheses of images and text using a combination of traditional and digital techniques. I work with paper, hand-dyed textiles, and found materials such as plastic packaging. I also offer mixed media installations that inspire curiosity, conversation, and critical thinking in these challenging times.
I spent my childhood in Canada, moved to New York City to earn my BFA at Parsons School of Design, then raised a family and designed innovative children’s books in White Plains. I am an Appalachian Trail section hiker and have logged over 900 miles and counting, and no doubt will be exploring the Finger Lakes Trail. I recently earned a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies at SUNY Empire State University, focusing on ways to cultivate ecological literacy through art.
I run my own graphic design business, Climbing Tree Studio, and Climbing Tree Press, a collaborative offering of my printed works with those of my life partner and artist, Philip Viola, also listed on the Art Trail.
