I’m an Ithaca-based poet and spoken word artist. Poetry is a way for me to make sense of my experiences and the world around me and transform narratives into sources of healing, empowerment, and connection. Focusing on themes of love, loss, family, home, and change, I hope my words inspire, comfort, and shed light on truths in our daily lives. My influences include Maya Angelou and Jessica Care Moore.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, my passion for the arts led me to pursue my BFA at Cornell University in 2019 and then my MFA in Sculpture from Boston University in 2022. During that time, I learned how art can be a valuable tool for connection and transforming the ways we see ourselves in the world.
I’ve written poetry on and off throughout my entire life. It wasn’t until I moved to Ithaca in 2022 and immersed myself in the writing community here, did I realize poetry was integral to my artistic practice. In addition to creating my written work, I create functional ceramics inscribed with elements of my poetry and host poetry-related events, such as workshops and community conversations, for writers to gather, share ideas, and build community.
