My studio and home are situated on a park-like setting of a 19th century Greek Revival farmhouse. Come visit my eclectic studio filled with plein air oil paintings.
I am a true Plein Air artist who creates my paintings from my mobile studio – a minivan using the steering wheel as my easel as well as working on a standing easel in the outdoors. Working quickly, I capture the feeling of the moment; with strokes that are confidently applied. The results are fresh, bold and impressionistic canvases. My use of colors appear extreme and brilliant, bordering on fauvism upon close inspection. I tend towards realism then tweak up the colors.
I’ve always been an artist, pursuing my talent in an unconventional way since childhood. I was born in Mexico City in 1954 and grew up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art.
In 1978, I enlisted in the army, serving as a helicopter pilot. During my military career, I was stationed at various bases around the world. I painted as a way to record my personal experiences.
My work today reflects the images and people I have encountered in my travels over the years. I am inspired by the work of Winslow Homer and George Bellows.
