I have been an Artist Blacksmith for over forty years. The essence of my work is the celebration of the individual; one smith, and what he can do to inspire the future and honor the past.
Over the time I’ve wielded a blacksmith’s hammer, I’ve been fortunate to enjoy national representation, an extensive network of private and commercial clients, numerous awards, spotlights in national publications, and have exhibited widely.
I teach blacksmithing classes at my Mecklenburg shop; participate in ongoing apprenticeship programs through area schools and agencies; and accept private commissions.
See my work locally: Hand railing installation is at the outdoor creekside patio of Gimme! Coffee in Trumansburg, Cascadilla gorge gate on Cornell campus, the gates in Minns Garden on Tower Road, the lanterns at the front of Willard Straight Hall; the Plantations visitors center and around the grounds.
Studio Location Specifics:
Take Route 79 heading west out of Ithaca to Mecklenburg. Bear right at the sign that says “Trumansburg 7 mi.” (Route 228N). Go less than a mile and take the first right, onto Carman Road, where a small yellow anvil sign points the way. Go about half a mile and the Durand’s Forge sign will be on your left. It’s a small sign, so go slow!
