Jim Kozlowski

Come visit my studio on a high hill in Trumansburg, with a view overlooking Cayuga Lake. I work in acrylics and colored pencils. Many of my acrylics are done with impasto, creating striking textured abstracted images; my pencil drawings are realistic renderings of birds and flowers.

My ground level studio is in my home at 3231 Halseyville Road in Trumansburg. From Route 96 take Halseyville Road south 2 ½ miles. My home is the second house on the right after the blinking red light at the Perry City Road intersection.

My work as an art teacher for 12 years and as a full time production potter for 37 years provided income to support my family; but my first love has always been two dimensional work. Since my retirement and move to Trumansburg in 2014 I’ve had the time to get back to my camera, brushes, and colored pencils. In my new studio I started painting with acrylics, often using the technique of impasto, thick paint applied with a palette knife. The resulting texture creates a dramatic effect. My photos of flowers and plants around my home and at Cornell’s Plantation Gardens, and images I captured of birds this winter at the Basque del Apache Wildlife Preserve in New Mexico, provide many inspirations for my colored pencil drawings. The wonders of Nature continue to surprise and delight me, and I share these feelings through my work
