My portraits of individuals, couples, families, and small groups
are unlike other portraits: they reveal who people are at heart and
what matters to them. Each portrait uses its subjects' memories,
dreams, intimate associations, and longings, uncovered in a
powerful pre-painting interview. (Clients tell me it is an
experience of being deeply seen and understood.)

Starting from the Commons, head north on North Tioga Street. Go 8 blocks to my home studio at 819 N. Tioga St. - it's on the right, across from Lewis St., and has a glassed-in front porch with children's paintings on the windows. (You're close when you pass the only stop sign on N. Tioga, at Tompkins St.)
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My portraits are painted in the ancient technique of egg tempera on wood panels with embossed gold leaf highlights, just as Byzantine icons and Renaissance altarpieces were made. They celebrate the sacred in ordinary people. Clients use their portraits to remember who they can be and what gives them vitality and joy; the images are inspirational reminders of commitment, potential, and love.
Come to my downtown home studio to view a sample of these unusual portraits and read the story behind each. I accept new commissions as well. And I can share with you the remarkable story of how I suddenly became an artist two years ago, after 20 years as a writer and home schooling mom.
I also work with mixed-media collage and lead collage workshops for adults and children; if you'd like, you can make a collage during your visit. (You don't need any "artistic ability" to produce intriguing and beautiful results.) Just follow my tips and enjoy - there's lots of fun material here to play with.
